Obituary of John Patrick Flynn

We are profoundly sad to announce the passing of John Patrick Flynn on Saturday, December 4th, 2021, in Fredericton, New Brunswick, at 67 years of age, after a short bout with cancer. John loved and was loved by many. John is survived by his loving and adored wife Heike Flynn; four sons Thomas (Selena), Trevor (Sarah), John Daniel ‘Dan’ (Genevieve) and Andrew; grandchildren Sean, Noah, Hayden, Jonas, Victor, Rowan, Lucas, Violet, Samuel and Aaron; siblings Claudette, Linda (Donnie), Peggy (John), Jimmy (Iris), Nancy (late Malcolm), Michael (Rhoda), Joanne (Gerald), Gerry (late Bev) and his first wife Bonnie (Doug) as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his parents Thomas and Geraldine, brother Thomas Poirier (Lydia) and granddaughter Anna Flynn. Born on February 10, 1954, in St. Margaret’s New Brunswick, John graduated from James M. Hill High School before attending UNB in Fredericton. In his professional life John worked as a banker, a restaurant entrepreneur, and in economic development before retiring. He proudly represented York in the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick from 1995 to 1999 as a Liberal member. John was well known for his kind and generous spirit and believed strongly in the importance of community. He gave back willingly through local service groups everywhere that he lived, particularly during his 10+ years in McAdam, New Brunswick where he spearheaded and supported numerous community initiatives, always willing to lend his time and his talents. As a coach, van driver and head cheerleader, John made sure that all the kids in the community, along with his sons, were able to enjoy sports, and took great pleasure in following the successes of "his boys" as they grew older. A lifetime member of the McAdam Lions Club, John also volunteered as auctioneer for the annual Lakeland auction for many years, even after he had moved away. Proud of his Irish heritage, John was happiest when he was surrounded by as many members of his large extended family as possible. He never missed an opportunity to get together with them or to support them in any way he could. He never tired talking about his sons and grandchildren or expressing how lucky he felt to have met his soulmate, Heike. A long-suffering Maple Leafs fan John enjoyed a good joke and in later years would often communicate one along with his daily weather report on Facebook. A private graveside memorial service is being planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers donations in John’s memory can be made to the McAdam Lions Club, Lakeland Industries, Hospice Fredericton, St. Margaret's Cemetery Fund or the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada
