Obituary of Kurt Karl Ferworn
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Kurt Ferworn announce his passing on December 8th, 2021, at the age of 90 years. He was the loving husband of the late Milli Ferworn (née Mandl).
Born in Germany, he went on to study engineering. Ready for a new life, he crossed the Atlantic to Canada aboard the ship Arosa Kulm in 1953, where he met a lovely young lady whom he married the following year. They shared a lifelong romance and were happy together for 64 years.
He will be missed as a dear father to Karen (Roger), Diane (Allen) and Doris (Mike). He had nine grandchildren Marc (Heather), Michael (Cate), Adam (Raena), Madelaine (Alex), Heather (Darren), Keith (Michelle), Blair, Kurt and Emily and was great-grand father of thirteen, all of whom he was so very proud. He leaves behind many friends and extended family.
Kurt first settled in Belleville, Ontario, and then Ottawa working at Northern Electric in telephone and television technology. His restlessness, sense of adventure and entrepreneurship lead him to New Brunswick where he started Highland Co. Ltd. in 1965. He constructed both residential and commercial buildings throughout the province and was well respected within the industry.
Kurt’s most favorite hobby was to travel, and he would prefer to drive whether it be 20 or 5000 KM, mostly non-stop! He enjoyed his cruises in the Caribbean, road trips to Florida and across Canada, travels to Mexico, Cuba and Europe often meeting up with family and friends along the way. He loved to follow advancements in science in aerospace, engineering, biology, and ecology. Even in retirement he kept up with the latest in computers. He enjoyed hands-on activities whether it be woodworking, mechanics, or gardening.
Kurt was a loving father and a great family man; dinner table discussions were always lively. He adored his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. The antics of the little ones always brought a bemused smile to his face. Remembered for his kindness and generosity, Kurt was always willing to share his time and help others.
In addition to his wife, Kurt was predeceased by his parents Ludwig and Mia Ferworn, sister Lilli Ehrenreich and many close friends.
