Obituary of Mary Adelaide Duplassie
It is with the deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of the Matriarch of our family, Adelaide Duplassie. Adelaide was born on August 18, 1929, and was the daughter of Beatrice (nee Carrier) and Wilfred Doucet, of Lorne, New Brunswick. In 1947, at the age of 18, she married Bernard Duplassie and they had three children together – Darrell, Douglas, and Donna. Adelaide also took on the role of raising her granddaughter, Daniele, with whom she had a very special relationship.
Adelaide had an amazing sense of humour. She told the same stories over and over, and laughed at them, each time, as if she was telling it for the first time. Not only was she a great story-teller who loved to laugh, she had an amazing ability to stretch a dollar, made the best soups and boiled dinners, was skilled at knitting and sewing, and was a stellar crib player. It was not uncommon for her to come home with a big bag of winnings from the various crib tournaments she attended over the years. Adelaide also had a heart of gold – she was always willing to help someone in need and had a soft spot for animals.
Adelaide is pre-deceased by her parents, Beatrice (2012) and Wilfred (1979); husband, Bernard (1990); brother, Alec (1995); sister, Lydia (2016); and son, Darrell (2015).
She leaves behind her brother, Lloyd (Trudy); sister, Rita (Bob); son, Doug (Marlene); daughter, Donna; step-son, Ryan (Samantha); granddaughters, Chantelle (Adam), and Daniele (Jacqui); grandsons, Dana (Amanda), and Christopher; and great grandkids, Miles, Nora, Lyndsay, Rayn, and Pace.
A small gathering of remembrance will take place for family and close friends at a later time. For those who wish, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of New Brunswick or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick.
Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure. You are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure. –Renee Wood
