Obituary of John Eric Campbell
The death of J. Eric Campbell (1953-2022), Fredericton, NB occurred on February 7, 2022, at home, surrounded by family and friends. He was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer four years ago. Eric was a home body and dying in the comfort of his own home was important to him. This was made possible by the wonderful Palliative care doctors and Extramural staff.
Eric was born in Fredericton, NB to the late Ron and Pat Campbell. He was predeceased by an infant brother William Irving Campbell (1952); his first cousin, Richard Campbell (2021), uncles, Larry and Keith, and their wives Millicent and Betty Campbell. He was also predeceased by Janice’s stepfather Paul Leger.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Dr. Janice (Edwards, PhD) and their son Sean and his wife Hillary, Janice’s mother, Doreen, and her father, Jack (Sonny) Edwards and his fiancée Sue Allen, of Fredericton; his sister Carol and brother-in-law Dene Williamson of Stratford, PEI; nephew Scott Williamson and his wife Julie and their children Elle and Hawksley, of Ottawa. Eric is also survived by Richard’s wife Jacinta and their son Brent, his wife Ambyr, and their twins, Brielle and Mylah, his first cousin Scott and his wife, Bev, and their children Craig and Jenny, all from Charlottetown.
Eric grew up on Shamrock Terrace where he made many lifelong friends. He graduated from Fredericton High School, in 1970, followed by a BBA from the University of NB. His passion was accounting. He eventually took on that role for his father’s construction company. When Ron retired, Eric and his business partner, Paul LeBlanc, took over Prospect Building Contractors. His Prospect colleagues are family.
Eric was a natural athlete and participated in many sports over the years. He enjoyed watching any and all sports on TV. He met Janice at the Fredericton Golf Club in 1974. He loved golf and his golfing buddies. He was also an avid reader. He was known in the neighbourhood for his attention to detail regarding his grass and driveway.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. Paul Kerr and staff for decades of wonderful medical care and to Dr. Margot Burnell and the staff in the oncology units at the Chalmers and the Saint John Regional hospitals for the excellent care provided over his journey with cancer. Eric was very grateful for the food, telephone calls, messages, in-person visits, snow removal, lawn care, etc., from family, friends, colleagues, and our neighbors.
