Obituary of Stephen Lorne Mitchell

Stephen Lorne Mitchell, 73, of Fredericton, NB passed away on February 25, 2022, at home. Born on June 7, 1948, in Toronto, Ontario, he was the son of the late Hazel and John Mitchell. He is survived by brother Biff Mitchell; daughters Chantelle Snow (Adam), Sarah Mitchell; son Dylan Mitchell (Brittany); grandchildren Nora Knight (James), Sam Mitchell, Miles Knight and Dalton Mitchell; nephews and nieces, Erik Mitchell (Karis), Dustin Mitchell (Ashleigh), Chaileen Jones (Timmy) and Cassie Pasma (Rob), with whom he shared a close bond; his beloved caregiver Frances Lohnes and her family, as well as good friend Caleb Bartlett, and the residents at Lohnes Special Care Home. Steve, as known to family and friends, graduated from Oromocto High School, and went on to become the Regional Director of Business Development for Household Finance. He also held the position of Manager for the Pioneer Club in Oromocto, NB. In his younger years, Steve was a weightlifter and took great pride in his fitness. He was a music lover, and had amassed a large collection over the years. Many people remember his pride and joy, the white 1977 Pontiac Firebird. Steve was a lifelong fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs, and reluctantly spent last spring watching the Habs playoff with his son Dylan. Steve hoped this year would be the year. Go Leafs! While Steve had many interests, nothing was as important to him as his family and close friends. He was a proud father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Nothing made him happier than being surrounded by loved ones, and he took great delight in the holidays surrounded by family. Being one year, less a day apart in age, his brother Biff was his constant sidekick and partner in crime, with the two taking several trips together the last several years. Steve greatly enjoyed these adventures. Steve was clever, friendly and had an amazing sense of humour. He was generous with praise, open and honest, and had the ability to make you feel like you were his favourite person. He took great joy in gently teasing the people he loved. He had a devilish grin and would break out in laughter when he got a good zinger in. Steve was deeply loved by his family, and his loss has left us with a space that can never be filled. We will miss him tremendously. At Steve’s request, no service will be held, but there will be a private memorial at a later date for family and close friends. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
