Obituary of Bernard Lapointe

It is with profound sadness that the family of Bernard (Bernie) Lapointe announces his passing on May 6th at DECH Fredericton, after a brief illness. Born Feb 21, 1943 in Kenogami, in the Saguenay Region of Quebec to parents Alberta (Tremblay) and Albert Lapointe. After a short career in the Military, Bernie enjoyed a long, fulfilling career in surveying with the Structures Branch of the NB Dept of Transportation from which he retired in 2002. in addition to his parents, Bernie was predeceased by his brother Marcel (Helene), Gilles (Cecile), Julienne (Annette), niece Nancy and nephew Serge as well as brother-in-law Martin Alward and son-in –law Scott Martel. He is survived by his wife Carolyn, son Michael (Joanne) PEI, loving daughters Johanne (Spokane, WA), Janine (Greg Chapman) Fredericton, Amy Elliott (Gary) Elmira, Ontario, Jane Urquhart (Tony) Charters Settlement, Helen Morgan (Jason) Brown’s Flats, NB, and special daughter Tammy Kingston (Louis), Victoria, BC, sister Collette Groulx (late Denis), and brother Daniel (Lorraine), all of Montreal, PQ. Also surviving him, are mother-in -law, Barbara Alward, and sister and brother-in-law, Maxine and Glen Ackerson, and sister-in-law Lin Alward. He also leaves many adored grandchildren, Cassandra and Isabella Lapointe, PEI, Casey Wade (Alex) and Erin Wade (DJ), San Francisco, CA, Emily and Ethan Wade, Spokane, WA, Ryan and Natalie Elliott, Elmira, ON, Caleb and Luke Urquhart, Charters Settlement, Alex (Haley) and Gabriel Kingston, and four precious chosen granddaughters he had yet to meet, Letitia, Christina, Katrina, and Sabrina Kingston, all of Victoria, BC. Bernie also loved and was loved by many nieces and nephews, in NB, AL, BC, PQ, NZ. The family wishes to thank Dr. Sean Dolan and all the oncology staff at the Saint John Regional Hospital, as well as the wonderful nurses of the Oncology Dept and 4NW at the DECH for their compassion and care during this difficult time. A special thank you to Dr. Savita Karol, Dr. Bea Sainz and Dr. Ashla Pond. Thank you also to EMH for their unfailing care and kindness. Arrangements are entrusted to McAdams Funeral Home. Due to the current health crisis, no visitation or funeral service is being held at this time. For those who wish, donations in Bernie’s memory may be made to Wounded Warriors Canada or the Canadian Cancer Society. Mactaquac Golf Club will be missing one very devoted golfer this season. Play on guys!
