Obituary of Winnifred Hoyt

What a blessing to have had a life so full with family and friends, that saying goodbye is so hard. On Friday, March 25, 2022, Winnifred "Winnie" Hoyt of Fredericton said her earthly goodbyes and went home, at the age of 86. Born in Sweets Corner, Nova Scotia, to the late Terrance and Eleanor (Hunter) Crowell; she is predeceased by her husband and soul mate, Peter; infant daughter, Paula Jane; and siblings, Russell and Terrance (Junior) Crowell, and Joan Tumblin. Winnie’s childhood was spent between Sweets Corner, Dartmouth and Bridgewater. As a young woman, she moved to Halifax where she began her lifelong career with the Bank of Montreal. It was there on Barrington Street that she met Peter, whom she would marry in 1957. In the years that followed they built their lives together first in Sydney, CB, then moving to Saint John and finally settling in Fredericton. They truly were inseparable, and you rarely saw one without the other. Her love of family and friends was at the heart of everything, and she was the consummate host of many gatherings, pool parties and holiday celebrations. Without fail, she could pull a casserole out of the freezer and feed any number of unexpected guests. An independent and resilient spirit, she built the next chapter of her life after the loss of her partner Peter in 1998. She became passionate about golf, active in the life of Christ Church (Parish) Church, hosted the annual "Hunter Cousins Weekend", and walked countless miles with her best friend and confidante, Bobby, the Cairn Terrier. Known for her keen sense of fashion, she was also an avid cook, bridge player, knitter and seamstress. Perhaps most importantly, Winnie will be remembered for her generosity and the many acts of kindness she showed to others, known and unknown. Winnie is survived by her loving daughter, Martha Jo (Suzanne); chosen granddaughters Jayne Holyoke-Gauvin of Fredericton and Anne Holyoke-Bernard of Langley, BC, and their families; special nephew Gary Tumblin, who was more like a son, of Cochrane, AB; special niece Terri Lynn Reed of Moncton, additional nieces and nephews of whom she was proud, her "Hunter cousins", and friends. Most grateful thanks to all who have cared for and supported her journey, especially Archdeacon John Sharpe, and the staff of Extra Mural and Hospice Fredericton. In keeping with her spirit, please consider an act of kindness for a friend or neighbour. If inclined, donations in her memory to Hospice Fredericton or the Canadian Red Cross relief efforts in Ukraine would be appreciated by the family. A memorial service will be held at Christ Church (Parish) Church on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at 2pm with Rev. Canon Wandlyn Snlegrove officiating, and Ven. John Sharpe assisting. In accordance with the church’s policies, attendees must wear masks while in the church. For those unable to attend, a livestream of the service will be available at the following link: https://vimeo.com/708616420. In the event of technical issues, a recording of the service will be available the following day at the same link. Interment will follow at the Fredericton Rural Cemetery. ~ Love is Immortal ~
