Obituary of Donald Hugh Fraser
It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Donald Hugh Fraser of Fredericton. Hugh was born in Saint John on December 3, 1944 and grew up in Blissville, NB. He was the son of Donald Price Fraser and Ethel Blanche (Watson) Fraser.
Besides his parents Hugh was predeceased by his brother, Angus Fraser and sister, Jacqueline Barr and brother-in-law, Paul Barr. Hugh was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Hugh is survived by his stepdaughter, Kenora Sorgenfrie, nephew, Andrew Barr (Achala), niece Kiersten MacGillivray, sister-in-law, Wendy Chapman and cousins, Peter Fraser (Patricia) and Sally Chamberlain (Bruce); their families and many friends throughout Canada and the U.S.
Hugh graduated from Sunbury West Regional High School and continued work as a farmer with his father later becoming a commercial pilot flying small industrial planes and water bombers for forest fires throughout eastern Canada, and all provinces as far west as Saskatchewan. His last employment years were in the service of his community with Trius Taxi.
Hugh had an early love affair with "special" cars (including a certain little red t-bird) and a distinct attraction to airplanes. He travelled extensively for his flying work and visited Florida several times and California. Hugh tramped around the great outdoors in good sport with hiking companions. He also loved birds, cats and creatures of the wild.
Hugh was a compassionate and honourable man with a golden heart. His captivating and funny stories of life and adventure entertained everyone who knew him and will be remembered with a smile. He will be missed by all.
As per Hugh’s wishes there will be no visitation or funeral. Cremation is to take place with interment at a later date in Blissville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
