Obituary of Robert Wayne Shanks
It is with great sadness that the family of Robert "Bob/Bobby" Shanks announces his passing on June 03, 2022. He is now in the loving company of his wife (predeceased) Deborah (Colford) Shanks.
Bob married his soulmate on February 24, 1973. Their relationship was one of mutual love and respect. They loved to laugh and spend time with their family. They built a life and family that was a monument to others.
Robert was the son of the late Flora and JD Hazen Shanks. In addition, he is also predeceased by his sisters, Shirley Shanks, Carolyn (George) Leslie and Alva (Bill) Brock, brothers, Charles, Junior, and Keith (Elaine) Shanks.
Robert loved his family dearly. His adult children, Robert Shanks (Jr), Donna (Roger) Arseneau, Jennifer Shanks (Joseph), Theresa (Andre) Theriault. His Grandchildren, Jacob Hogan (Emma), Jaiden Hogan (Cyprian), Simon, Charlie & Victor Theriault, George Hazen Bates, Kory, Kevin (Erin) & Samantha Arseneau (Troy), Dawn (Brandon) Hawk and Jessica Shanks. Great-Grandchildren, DJ Burkett, Aliyah Stephens, Payton Arseneau, Bentley and Adam Hawk and Jackson Hogan and brother Brien (Eunice) Shanks.
Robert worked all his life as a mechanic in the area, as well he worked for the Oromocto Bus garage where he very much enjoyed his time. He was a skilled mechanic and known in the surrounding areas for his talent. Even in his retirement, he enjoyed tinkering on small and large engines.
He was not a Ford fan but did not judge those who were. He used humour in his everyday life to cope with whatever was happening. He was very knowledgeable and enjoyed sharing that knowledge. He had a saying for everything and a story to back that up. He was a people person who enjoyed to get out around the area. He enjoyed people and they enjoyed him. He was a gentle man with a heart of gold. He saw the bad in the world but chose to see the good in people and the world regardless.
He will forever be missed and loved. He made a difference in this world to all who knew him. Robert’s family would like to thank staff at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital for their exceptional care for the last months.
As per Robert’s wishes, there will be no service held. For those who wish, donations in his memory are of the donors choosing.
