Our prayers and thoughts are with you Lucie, as we learn of Hughes passing. As you know, he and I worked side by side for all of his career at VFP and enjoyed great friendship both at our jobs and outside of work. He demanded attention when he had something to say but was always willing to listen to others point of view. I remember one time at at convention in Quebec when about 15 of our colleagues were enjoying an evening of discussions and drinks and when we were nearly done, he, in his strong voice, turned to the waiter and said, "Rex will pick up the bill", and of course all agreed. Needless to say, I paid the bill with pleasure, because that was just Hughie. We all loved him and respected him. He will be greatly missed. I have many great memories and I know, as you go forward your memories will be carry you through the dark days. Please pass on our thoughts to Julie and Grant. God Bless

I am saddened to hear of Hugh's passing, but as I reflect on the time we worked together, I have many wonderful memories of Hugh. He had a great ability to "talk on his feet" - sometimes working himself into a corner, but before he was done, finding a way out! He had great respect from all those who worked with him at VFP. He challenged us all, but made it a fun place to work. He was a great mentor and was very supportive of myself and others developing their careers. Sincere condolences to you and all of the family. Bruce Chisholm

My deepest sympathies to Lucie and family. I had the pleasure of working with Hugh over the years as I worked as an Operations Mgr. for BMPC in NS for 30 yrs. Most of my dealings with Hugh were through the CWF. It was there that I got to know Hugh and gain respect for his knowledge, passion and enthusiasm. He loved to problem-solve and he had a great way with people. He was a major force in the Forest Industry and will be deeply missed by all his peers.

Hello Lucie, I was saddened to learn of the passing of Hugh - so many great memories from the days of the LOG, and the many laughs he shared with Tony Rotherham and myself. I have a photo on my desk of us three together - a treasured reminder of Hugh's enthusiasm and friendship. I will miss him as I am sure you will. Jeremy Rickards

Hi Lucie; My God it was only this past weekend that you and Hugh popped into my head. I was thinking of all the fun we had over the years with your trips to the rock and mine up to NB/NS. Hugh was one heck of a guy; smart, funny and not to mention one hell of a dancer! As all of the other notes have said, Hugh left an incredible mark on the forest industry. I learned a lot from Hugh over the years and I hope that he had as much fun working with us crazy Newfoundlanders as we did with him. Take care... Eric Young

Hey Lucie and family So sorry to hear of Hugh's passing. He was always a true gentleman and never one to back down from a good debate as I witnessed over our years at the CWF LOG meetings. I have many fond memories of these discussions and remember well when he passed the baton over to me to lead this group. Even then when he attended he was front and center in the discussions. We all had a lot of respect for Hugh and the industry will certainly miss him along with his family. Truly sorry for your loss. Deon
