Brenda and David Sansom posted a condolence
Elaine was such a force. No one could possibly have faced their illness with her kind of positive attitude. I always admired her spirit and determination. She lit up a room by her mere presence. It was a beautiful celebration when she married Spencer. Since David and I had introduced them as blind dates we always felt a part of their beautiful love story. " Zip-a-dee-doo-dah zip-a dee-ay My, oh my what a wonderful day " she sang as she saw Spencer come to the door to take her on their first date so I know what she was singing as she entered the golden gates of heaven. I am sure of it. Sincere sympathy to the family of very very special gal

I have never had a better teacher. All subsequent teachers and esteemed professors with fancy degrees have candidly paled in comparison to Elaine's relentlessly positive and deeply passionate approach to educating and assisting her students. She found a way to miraculously inspire stubborn elementary school children into enjoying school and doing their very best. She even welcomed me into her home as an adult and added me on facebook later in life, periodically checking in to offer kind words of encouragement to a past student. I truly am sorry for your loss. The world is slightly darker without her infectious passion for improving the lives of the next generation.

I'm so sorry to hear of Mrs Coy's passing. She was an absolute treasure of a teacher when she was mine back at Harvey elementary. I remember doing a project on earthquakes in her class where my partner and I put in mounds of effort, only to bore the entire class after what looks back like hours of reading information we obtained lol. I remember Mrs Coy graciously letting us know we'd probably shared enough information :) and on backwards day she greeted us all Morning Good and said our last names before or first. I can still hear her genuine giggle when she was greeting us. We all just loved her for a teacher and still have great memories. Sending you all sincere sympathy and prayers

To all of Elaine's family--sincere sympathy on the death of a mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. I first came to know Elaine when I moved into Governor's Hall and eventually lived across the hall from her. We last spoke in Thomas Hall; I asked if she would like me to offer a prayer, and when she said 'yes' I said one of Cardinal Newman's-"O Lord, support us all the day of this life, until the shadows lengthen and the evening comes, and the busy world is hushed, and the fever of life is over, and our work is done. Then of your tender mercy grant us a safe lodging, and a holy rest, and peace at the last; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen" May she rest in peace.

I am heartbroken that Elaine has passed. I have known her for as long as I have memory. Over the years, I have seen her tackle all the challenges life gave her - some of them she chose, and met through hard work, a positive attitude and passion; others she did not want or deserve, she managed with grace and acceptance. She excelled at everything that was important to her and made a positive difference to many. I will miss seeing her on my next visit to NB, but will forever cherish the time I spent with her on my last visit. I will always remember her smile and sense of humour. May memories of the good times, and pride in Elaine's life well lived, ease your grief.

To Elaine's family, especially daughter, Stacy, son, Mark, and sister, Linda: I was saddened to read about Elaine's death. I first met her in 1979 when she was the librarian at Liverpool St. School, and I was hired to teach English to French Immersion. She had such great exuberance and seemed to love her job. I greatly admired her for returning to university to obtain her Education degree while caring for two small children. Whenever we met through the years, we would always have a chat, usually about teaching. I know she was devastated by Spencer's death. I did meet her a few times at the Shannex Strawberry Festival; I was a guest of Alida Hanson. She still had that gregarious personality and twinkle in her eye, and seemed to enjoy living there. I hadn't realized that she had been so sick recently. Sincere condolences, Linda Hubbard

Linda, Jeannie, Carolyn, Mark, Stacy - and ALL Members of your Family - With utmost sadness, I am sending this note to all members of Elaine's Family. Having grown up on Hanwell Road (the Saunders Family) with the Simpson Family growing up in Sunshine Gardens, we have been in one another's lives for a long, long time. My sister Audrey and I were very fortunate in our teenage years to have the priviledge of caring for the children of two beautiful English War Brides while they helped their husbands in their chosen businesses - Olive Simpson (Bob - The Sunshine Gardens Grocery Store)) and Dell Wilby (Tommy - The Imperial Restaurant) Both were so kind to Audrey and I and our family friendships are and will continue to be ongoing. The Sunshine Diner now sits on the exact property where the grocery store was - and ironically, it is owned and operated by the Wilby Family. Also in my book of memories I just HAVE to remember your dear Grampy Roy, who worked side-by-side with your Mom nd Dad for so many years. Audrey mainly provided care of the Simpson Girls, but I did so as the need arose - even as a child I remember that beautiful smile on Elaine's face - her trademark in life. Both she and Spencer always made you feel they were so happy to see you. I really got to know Spencer when we were on Vestry together at the Parish Church and quickly realized how they enjoyed life. Sorry for rambling on, but so many fond memories come to mind - and I feel SO fortunate to have been blessed with these treasured memories to hold in my heart for the rest of my days. - May you find comfort in knowing I (as well as countless others) share in your loss. - Sending my love to all, Shirley Munn.
