Obituary of Charles Moreland

The family of Chuck Moreland is sad to announce his passing, peacefully and surrounded by his family, on July 22, 2020. Born on the Welsh island of Anglesey, Chuck enjoyed a happy childhood before pursuing his education at Manchester, Loughborough and Birmingham, where he met and married his wife of 64 years, Valerie, before emigrating to Canada in 1957 with the first of their four children. After a short time in Alberta, Chuck joined the Engineering Faculty of UNB in 1962, and with colleagues, was instrumental in its expansion into the present major institution. He remained there until retirement in June 1993, assisting many young people in their engineering achievements. He was a firm and committed believer in the importance of education. He loved his family and his music, his languages, his crosswords and a good debate. His is survived by his wife; his four children Megan, Kay (Stephen), Matt (Melanie) and Peter; three grandchildren and four great-granddaughters, all of whom will never forget the strong but loving morals by which he lived; and younger brother Allen Moreland. Chuck was predeceased by his parents and older brother Peter. Cremation will be followed by a private family funeral, with a memorial service in due course.
