Obituary of S. Reid Giffin

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Simon Reid Giffin at home on July 31st, 2020. A 7th generation Bluenose, Reid was born to the late Lily (Chapman) and Reginald Giffin in Goldboro, N.S. Reid was predeceased by his wife Shirley (Murphy) in 2003 and his partner Betty Palmer in 2010. He is survived by his daughters Moira Giffin of Harvey Station and Meredith Giffin (Paul) of Montreal; his brothers Ron (Pat), Claude, and Brian (Rita) and his sister Pauline; and his nephews Greg, Chris, and Simon and their families. During his 40-year career as a civil engineer with FENCO and SNC-Lavalin, Reid worked on the Burlington Bay Skyway and the Bay of Quinte Skyway in Ontario, the Saint John Harbour Bridge, and many other bridges, roads, and buildings in New Brunswick. An avid curler, Reid was a member for many years of the Fredericton Curling Club; and a longtime member of the Rotary Club of Fredericton. There will be no service at Reid’s request. For those who wish, donations may be made in his memory to the Fredericton Community Foundation and the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
