Obituary of Sharon Dawn Miller
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Sharon Dawn Miller (nee Barton) of Fredericton, NB on Sunday, February 12, 2023. As per her wishes, Sharon passed peacefully in the arms of her two children in her home of over 50 years. Sharon was born on April 26, 1946 on the Post Road in Minto, NB. She was the daughter of the late Ronald and Doris Barton.
Sharon worked as an office administrator for the majority of her 43 years in the work force beginning in Saint John, NB then moving to Fredericton where she worked in the Centennial Building as well as Experimental Farm. Her greatest number of years were spent in nursing administration at the Oromocto Public Hospital until her retirement in 2011. Sharon enjoyed her work immensely and made life-long friendships along the way. It has been said that Sharon was a friend to all and that her smile lit up any room she entered.
Sharon loved music, especially singing. She spent many years with the Elm City Echoes Barbershop Chorus in Fredericton as well as the Lintuhtine Choirs in Oromocto. Her favourite genres of music included country and western, 50s and 60s pop, gospel and even (with a little nudging from her son) opera and classical. One of her favourite things to do was follow her son Derrick around the globe hearing him sing, from Toronto to New York and all the way to Hong Kong! They sure had some special times together and made memories to last a lifetime and beyond.
After her retirement, Sharon enjoyed many travel excursions with friends and family to places like Las Vegas, Florida, Mexico and Spain. When her only grandson Rylan was born it was love at first sight. She enjoyed meeting him at the school bus each day, going to get ice cream at the Dairy Delight and watching him play in his various sporting activities. Nana was so proud of you Rylan!
Sharon loved being surrounded by family especially during Holidays and other celebrations. Singing, dancing, playing games and laughing were some of her favourite things to do when everyone got together. Her daughter Sharla is someone she has referred to as her “sweetheart” and “earth angel”, especially during these last years as Sharla took on the very important role of primary caregiver.
Sharon is survived by her daughter Sharla Clark (Blair Gaidies) of Fredericton, son Derrick Miller (Richard) of Toronto, ON, grandson Rylan Clark of Fredericton, and brother Eugene Barton (Glenna) of Edmonton, AB.
Sharon was predeceased by her sister Buda Courser (Roy) of Saint John, NB and her parents Ronald Claude and Doris Mae Barton of Minto, NB.
Special thank yous must be made to the following people for the love, care and compassion they showed to Sharon over the course of her illness: Linda Lee, Annette Munn, Lou Thompson, Extra Mural (Krista, Britney, Janet, Mana, Suzanne), Jim Ryan, and the DECH Palliative Care Team, especially Dr. Cameron, the staff of the Medicine Shoppe at the CO-OP, Dr. Naomi White and staff, Theresa Barton and the staff at McAdam's Funeral Home, as well as so many others.
A visitation will be held at McAdam's Funeral Home on Thursday, February 16, from 6 pm-9 pm. A memorial service will be held in the J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel on Friday February 17, 2023 at 2 pm with reception to follow. A recording of the service is available at the following link: https://vimeo.com/event/2880456. Interment in the Newcastle Creek Cemetery will be held at a later date.
