Obituary of Richard Warren Stocker

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Richard (Rick) Warren Stocker of Fredericton NB on Saturday Dec 30, 2023, at the Dr. Everett Chalmers hospital in Fredericton NB. He was born in Toronto ON, the son of late George and Marion (Blachford) on July 5, 1946.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years Marg (Smith); sons: Brent (Morgane), Brian (Nina); grandchildren: Eric, Jenna, Blake and Simon; brothers: Paul (Gerry), Jim (Marsha), Grant; sister-in-law: Ethel; niece: Sarah; and nephews: Drew and Kevin. He was predeceased by his parents George and Marion and in-laws Sanford and Eileen.

He began his teaching career in 1966 at Marysville Junior High, George Street Junior High before spending 22 years at Fredericton High School in the Physical Education Department. While at FHS Rick coached the JV Men’s basketball team and after retiring he continued his coaching career with the JV Women’s team. He loved working with student athletes, helping them reach their full potential and feel comfortable and confident to strive in their sport.

Rick was a well-respected Athletics New Brunswick and Athletics Canada track official 50+ years as part of the start team, a mentor and an evaluator. On any given weekend, along with Marg, he could be found on a track somewhere in the Maritimes officiating. His volunteering efforts in the sport of athletics lead to his induction onto the Fredericton Wall of Fame as a Builder in 2012.

Rick was an outdoorsman who loved fishing, hunting and especially his time with friends at Mink Brook.

He will be remembered for his love of family and friends, his kindness, and his willingness to help others any time, day or night and his smile and warm hugs. He was a gentleman and will be missed.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to staff of the Doctor Everett Chalmers Hospital Palliative Care Unit, as well as to those in the Emergency Room for the care given to Rick.
