Obituary of Lorna Elsie MacNeil

​The family of Lorna Elsie MacNeil announce her passing, which occurred on Feb. 28, 2024 at the Oromocto Public Hospital. Lorna was born in Baie Verte, NB on Jan.1, 1933 along with her twin brother Lorne. She was the daughter of the late Mary C. (Murphy) and George A. Wood. She was predeceased in 2017 by her husband of 62 years Malcolm H. MacNeil.

​Lorna attended the Moncton Hospital School of Nursing and retired as a registered Nurse after 20 years. She was a member of the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital Auxiliary, Moncton Hospital Alumnae and a long time parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church. Lorna supported her lifelong friend Dr. Marilyn Trenholme Counsell when she was in office as NB Lieutenant Governor. Lorna and Malcolm travelled extensively in their retirement.

​Lorna is survived by her sister Shirley Graham and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her siblings Dorothy Atkinson, Basil Wood, David Wood, Jean Thomson, Helen Toole, Marie Barry, Hugh Wood, Noreen McFarlane, Majorie Hicks and Lorne Wood.

​The family would like to thank the staff of Governor Hall, Parkland Fredericton, where she resided since 2018 as well as Dr. Brian Reid and the staff of Med 1 at OPH.

​Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1500 Hanwell Road, on Saturday March 2, 2024, at 1:00 pm with Fr. Bill Brennan as celebrant. There will be an hour of visitation beginning at 12:00 pm at the church. A reception will follow the Mass. Interment will take place in the Fernwood Cemetery, Port Elgin, in the spring.

​Donations may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church – St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish, or to a charity of one's choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to McAdam's Funeral Home and online remembrances may be made at www.mcadamsfh.com.
