Obituary of Clarice Mary Roxborough

Clarice Roxborough died peacefully with her daughter Dianne at her side on March 2, 2024, at Pine Grove Nursing Home. While saddened by their loss, her family is grateful for her long and full life. Clarice was born on April 14, 1923, and was a life-long resident of Fredericton. She was the eldest daughter of the late Hazel (Burlock) and the late Walter McGinn.

Clarice was a nurturing and caring person to everyone. Together with her husband, Kip, they welcomed family and friends to their home.  Whether it be for a meal or an extended stay, their doors were always open and the food was plentiful and delicious.

Clarice enjoyed golfing and curling and, with her team, represented New Brunswick in the Senior Women’s National Curling Championship in Saskatchewan in 1975. A fiercely competitive bridge player, she enjoyed the game and the companionship that it gave her until she was well into her 90s. She was a life-long member of St. Dunstan’s Church and was active for decades in its activities including being a member of the CWL and working at church suppers and luncheons.

Left to mourn her passing are her daughters Dianne (Ernest Brown) of Fredericton, Heather (John Hammond) of Saint John and son James (Charlene) of Fredericton as well as her brother Michael McGinn of Stittsville, ON. Clarice is survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and as well as nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Clarice was predeceased by her husband Clifton (“Kip”), siblings Robert McGinn, Dorothy McGinn, Walter McGinn Jr., Maureen Fantin and Patrick McGinn and by her granddaughter Heather Roxborough.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude for all of the staff at Pine Grove Nursing Home for the outstanding care and compassion that they gave to Clarice over her nearly three years there. She couldn’t have been in better hands.

Visitation will take place at McAdam’s Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 6, from 2:00 - 4:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Dunstan’s Catholic Church on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at 2:00 pm with Fr. Peter Osborne as celebrant.
