Hi there I am so very sorry for your loss. My name is Cathy Robert but I was married to Fred Crocker. I arrived down east in Jan 1963 with our five month old son Jimmy. Ruby who was Fred’s aunt helped him find a place for us to live and buy furniture.I was just turning eighteen the following month and here I was leaving my family and moving down east where I didn’t know a soul. My mom had relatives in Cape Breton but that was so far away. I didn’t really know my mom’s family because with my Dad in the Air Force we moved many times. Also with five girls my parents couldn’t afford to go there for a holiday. I met Ruby when I was pregnant at Ralph and Ethel’s when she was visiting them at the Downsview base where we lived. She had Cathy at the time just about a year old I think. Ruby was so kind and caring and I just felt so relaxed around her given my situation. I moved down there and we became such wonderful steadfast friends! We just had so much fun together and I loved her dearly. When Bob was away at sea and Fred too we would spend time together. Sometimes I would stay with Cathy and Kris and she would work a shift at the hospital. My Jimmy loved spending time with Cathy especially as she is just a year older than him. I guess life just got in the way but I am truly sad we lost touch. She had such a caring genuine heart and was truly one of my closest friends. Love Cathy
