Obituary of Michael R. Thanisch
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael R. Thanisch on May 18, 2024, peacefully in Fredericton. Michael is survived by his wife Christa, daughters Petra Thanisch (Chris Beaumont-Smith) and Tina Mueller-Thanisch (Joerg) as well as his three grandchildren: Christina, Timm, and Mark. He loved his family dearly.
Michael was a mechanical engineer with NB Power for 34 years. His hobbies were numerous. He particularly enjoyed renovating and designing houses and then working on those projects. He loved to garden, cross-country ski, and kayak at the cottage on Lake George. Traveling also brought him great joy.
Michael always felt if you wanted things to happen in your community, you had to be involved. He volunteered in the sports organizations his daughters participated in. He was active in St. Paul’s United Church for 25 years serving on both the Session and the Board of Trustees, and acted as treasure for the Kidney Foundation, the Rowing Club, and the Council of the Arts Fredericton. Most recently, he served two terms as president of PROBUS. He made his chosen hometown of Fredericton a better place for many.
The family would like to thank the many people at the DECH for the care, concern, and support Michael received in the lasts 10 weeks. His final few days were spent on 4 SE where he was attended to by a fabulous and compassionate nursing team. Their kindness was overwhelming. Thank you.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at 2:00pm at the J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel, followed by a reception. For those unable to attend the service, a livestream will be available at the following link: https://vimeo.com/event/4430192
