Condolences to Jim's family and friends. I didn't know Jim well, but he was a great friend to my father for the last few years of his life, and I know they both greatly valued that friendship. My Dad and Jim had much in common: they were born within a few months of each other, and so lived through many varied and interesting times, and the sorrow of losing their wives. They always had a lot to talk about, and when the in-person visits stopped during the worst of COVID, they kept in touch on the phone. In your late 90s, you don't get a lot of phone calls. So when we were visiting my Dad and the phone would ring, we would say "That'll be Jim!" A call from Jim was always a highlight of Dad's day. Not only that, but Dad only had three people on speed dial, his two local sons, and Jim. That is probably the ultimate compliment. Someone referred to Jim as a true gentleman, and that he was. Rest in peace, Jim, and thank you.

Everyone was blessed to have Jim in their lives. We will miss his grin and dry wit. He was our link to our (Jane's Jim's and Jeff's) own dad, Ian MacDonald, whom he met at an early age in Campbellton and their friendship attests to the commitment and respect they had for each other all through the 80+ years. Luckily their wives felt the same way about the friendship. Jim, and Laura, no doubt had this same type of friendship with others. Jim was a true gentleman, and, as my husband, John, said, when we dropped him off last Friday, looking forward to our September lunch date, “He’s one unbelievable man”! How he was proud of his family, and how good you were to him. We'd like to think there's a sports car "up there" and they've already had a spin and many laughs and got down to making donuts or whatever, as happened when we all got together. Our thoughts and love remain with you all.

Peter, Sandi, Reid and David, I have fond memories of our family visits to Beaconsfield when I was a child and teenager growing up in the Eastern Townships of Quebec. While my mother was only at UNB for 2 years before going on to Mount A, the friendship she formed with Laura Sutherland and, then Jim, is a relationship that endured the remainder of their years. By consequence, the Skillen/MacMillan bond was passed on to me. As a child, I remember Jim taking my parents and me over to what was then called Dorval airport to watch the planes taking off and landing. I was in awe then and I still marvel at air travel. My impressions of Jim, first formed as a child, lasted through my adulthood. As a child, I saw Jim as a gentle giant. As an adult, I saw him in the same light but with one added adjective, “caring”. Jim cared for Laura and for you, his children and he cared for my parents and me and my family. He lived a good life and I feel fortunate to have been included in it. May you smile over the coming months as you reflect back on his life and the lives you shared together as a family. Jim was a good man. We will miss him.
