Obituary of Sylvia Kathryn Herron

Those closest to Sylvia Kathryn Herron, 87, of Fredericton, New Brunswick, sadly announce she passed away on August 18, 2024, at York Care Center, in Fredericton.

Sylvia was born on July 18, 1937, to Clifford and Margaret Mary Ann Herron in McAdam, New Brunswick.

A devoted member of the St. Dunstan’s Council of the Catholic Women’s League of Canada, Sylvia served the league for over 40 years, weaving a legacy of support for the Mother & Child Welcome House, with a focus on Right to Life issues.

An avid reader and world traveler, Sylvia loved going on many solo adventures through the pages of thousands of books, as well as going in person to experience far-off countries and cultures. Stubborn, and with a dry sense of humor, Sylvia was one-of-a-kind. Her essence of strength and resilience was truly a force of nature.

Sylvia is lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews, as well as her dear friends Marjorie Dunphy and Marina Grasse. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her siblings, Austin Herron, Helen McIver, Agnes Lupo, and Marion McGillicuddy.

Special thanks to the many doctors, nurses, and staff of Tower 1 at York Care Center for their wonderful care of Sylvia while she was there.

Visitation will take place at McAdam’s Funeral Home on Friday, August 23, 2024, from 2:00 – 4:00pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at St. Dunstan’s Catholic Church in Fredericton, New Brunswick, beginning at 12:00pm, with Fr. Suresh Savariraj officiating. Following the service, all are invited to a reception in the church hall. Interment will take place in McAdam at a later date. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Diabetes Association of Canada, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
