Obituary of Mavis Sturgeon

It is with great sadness that Heather and Linda-Ann announce the passing of our beloved mother, Mavis Sturgeon (Evans) on July 20, 2021, at Paradise Villa in Fredericton, NB. Mavis is predeceased by her parents, Ethel and Bertram Evans from Whitebourne, NL, her husband, Bill Sturgeon, her brother Frank Evans, and her two sisters, Ruby Allison and Jean Sparks. Left to mourn her loss are her two daughters, Heather Goddard (Ron) of Kelowna, BC and Linda-Ann Sturgeon, Winnipeg, MB; two cherished grand-children, Sarah Goddard (Matt Faucher) and Aaron Goddard (Meagan Shusheski); her great-grand-daughters, Aria and Everly Faucher; several nieces and nephews, and many special friends, including Debbie, Etta, Joan and Walt, Judy, Norma and Tressa, Pauline (Bursey), and Wendy, who kept in touch with mom and supported her when family was so far away. Very special thanks to Raya, who was like a third daughter to Mom, going above and beyond to be a loving and caring friend who passionately advocated for Mom. The staff of Paradise Villa created a loving home and extended family for Mom for the past 5 years. Thank you for your excellent care, and especially for setting up palliative care in-house, allowing Mom to remain "at home" with friends and family during her final days, and to be surrounded by loving staff "Mav" was a registered nurse who graduated from the Grace General Hospital School of Nursing in St. John’s, NL. She retired from the Dr. Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton, NB. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Mom’s life will take place at McAdams Funeral Home, 160 York Street, Fredericton, NB on Monday, July 26 at 2 pm, with Rev. Ellen Beairsto officiating. Due to the current health restrictions, please contact the funeral home to register your intent to attend: (506) 458-9170 or mcadams@mcadamsfh.com.
