Obituary of Paul Horncastle

Born in Fredericton in 1927, Paul was the son of the late Donald Reginald and Violet Mae (Fox) Horncastle. He had a steadfast, good natured and jovial spirit, which served him well through a lifetime devoted to love and loyalty for his wife, family and friends, earning him the admiration and respect from all who knew him. He was married in 1952 to Ann Wright. They were blessed with love and companionship for 59 years until her passing in 2011. He enjoyed a 39 year career as a public servant with the provincial government, working early on as a cartographer for Lands and Mines Branch, Department of Natural Resources. He retired from the Department of Municipal Affairs as the Provincial Subdivision Supervisor. He was active within the community holding membership in numerous organizations, many of them lifelong. He and a small group of friends were instrumental in the formation of the 333 Air Cadet Squadron through FHS in 1943. He was a member of the cadet shooting team and enjoyed success as both a competitive and recreational shooter for the RCMP and a variety of clubs. He was a long-time member of Saint Paul’s United Church serving in the choir and as a member of session for decades. He was a life member of the Fredericton Society of St. Andrew, proud to display his Scottish heritage. He was a strong supporter of the New Brunswick Highland Games Festival, and attended regularly with his family. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and photography. He was an avid reader with a special interest in history and aviation, and enjoyed flying. His greatest passions were his love for family, friends and motorcycling. He was fortunate to be able to ride until the age of 91. It was a passion he shared with his late wife Ann, his sons and a few of his closest friends. Paul was predeceased by his parents, his wife Ann, brother Travis, brothers-in-law John Wright and Rolf Woerz. He is survived by his sister Barbara Ann Woerz, sisters-in-law Nellie Horncastle and Linda Brown (Paul), sons Marc, Eric (Audrey), Kirk (Michele), Peter (Susan), and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. There will be no visitation. A graveside service will take place in the Fredericton Rural Extension at a later date. For those who wish, donations in Paul’s memory may be made to the Fredericton SPCA or the Canadian Cancer Society.
